“The RNA Function” a networking event for trainees
Thursday, June 9 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
On Thursday, June 9 thirty-five students and postdocs representing nine departments and programs across Central campus and the Medical School met for the inaugural RNA Function: a networking event for trainees, by trainees. The goal of The RNA Function was to connect students and postdocs from across the university in an informal and low-risk environment to hear what other groups are doing around campus. The event included a poster session, catered lunch, and a facilitated “scientific speed-dating” networking event. Feedback from participants include:
“My favorite part of the day was meeting new people and catching up with the people I know but don’t see often because we work in different buildings”
“It was really nice to actually talk with almost all the people who attended today!”
“It was good that we were “forced” to interact with new people instead of sticking with people in our existing comfort zone.”
The U-M RNA Student and Postdoc Council wishes to give a big thanks to all of the attendees for coming out and contributing to this successful event! Stay tuned for further events in the next academic year!
The goal of The RNA Function is to connect students and postdocs from across the university in an informal and low-risk environment to hear what other groups are doing around campus. Trainees of all levels- including undergraduates, post-grads, graduate students and postdocs- will gain in-person poster presentation experience and learn about the many areas of RNA-related expertise on campus. We encourage everyone to present a poster that they have from a previous symposium or conference, and co-presenting by multiple members of a lab is supported. Finally, a facilitated networking event will allow trainees to make meaningful connections, with an emphasis on brainstorming ways in which cross-lab collaborations can propel projects forward. Registered in-person participants will receive a free box lunch. Registration deadline: May 31, 2022.
